ASBESTOS in your wine? Alcohol might be harmless in small doses, but what about drinking asbestos?

All wine-producing countries use asbestos filters for clarifying wine fluids principally in order to improve their appearance, and get rid of unwanted particles that blur the fluid. Asbestos loose-filtering beds allow as much clear wine to pass through in the course of half a day as the old cellulose filters did in a week.
The surface per unit weight of asbestos is ten times as great as that of organic and inorganic fibers. Because of this characteristic, filtering through asbestos makes it possible to retain much finer precipitates.

The asbestos fibers make their way into wine in the process of filtration, and thus making their way into the digestive areas of the consumer when drinking the wine. The risk of contracting deadly cancer in the lining of the abdomen (peritoneal mesothelioma) is therefore elevated when consuming wine.

Allthough asbestos is not used as wine filters in some western nations, it cant be ruled out that it is still being used. It is certainly used by wine producers in nations where asbestos is still legal to use.
